Summary
This month, we consider how the landscape for commercial water heating changed with the 2026 publication of PartL, Volume 2. Whilst decarbonisation tops the national agenda, the reality for many organisations is that gas remains a viable and cost-effective option for water heating. We look at the challenges and answers for easier gas replacement. We also look at how a hybrid approach to water heating - leveraging heat pumps and solar thermal - can reduce primary energy demand and achieve significant reductions in carbon emissions in higher education buildings. And, we conclude with how offsite construction techniques for DHW can accelerate the integration of heat pump-based hot water systems into commercial buildings of all shapes and sizes.
