Hot water specialist Adveco has been awarded the Building & Construction Review 2025 Editor’s Choice Award for its commitment to innovation in retrofit of commercial buildings, with a focus on more sustainable water heating.
The award considers recent work carried out by the company to address the continuing demands for gas water heating with increasingly efficient, lower emission gas appliances and the ground-breaking work in site metering and developing hybrid systems, which support the transition to electricity and renewables, actively supporting sustainability strategies.
Read by facilities, project and site managers, specifiers, building owners and operators, Building & Construction Review circulates to thousands of targeted businesses across the UK building and construction sectors. The Editor’s Choice Award for innovation in retrofit is one of a series designed to highlight companies that are striving to move the industry forward through open communication of the challenges and innovation that provide new, considered responses that serve both the new build and retrofit spaces.
Greg Brushett, sales director, Adveco, said, “With more than 1,755,000 recognised non-domestic buildings in England and Wales, the challenge of retrofitting HVAC systems is one of the single greatest challenges of attaining net zero by 2050. The vast majority of these buildings are gas-connected and still use a gas water heater, and, despite the drive for decarbonisation, like-for-like gas replacement continues to be popular, so we need to recognise and work within the limitations of many of these existing buildings. This means not only advancing transition to cleaner energy today but also enabling organisations to begin a process that can bridge them to future technology options better suited to their buildings.”
The innovation in retrofit award covers Adveco’s recent and ongoing work to advance gas water heating, integration of renewables, including air source heat pumps, and its leading role in the provision of commercial-grade solar thermal systems. Its integration of existing building metering and hot water design was cited for its real-world application and delivery of project cost savings. The development of the FUSION packaged electric water heating system, which makes use of familiar technology including an electric boiler, cylinder and controls plus the option to incorporate heat pumps and immersion with the continued efforts to promote an electric approach and sustainable alternatives for retrofit was a deciding factor in awarding Adveco for its work advancing retrofit of commercial building’s business-critical hot water services.
